Helene Recovery Benefit

The North Carolina mountains hold a special place in my heart - and I know I’m not alone. Our family has enjoyed many mountain getaways over the years, including a magical week in October 2020, when we all did our remote work/school/everything from a cabin in Creston, NC. In a really fraught time, it was a true respite.

Under a blue sky with white clouds, mountains appear in the distance, with trees in the foreground. In the distance at lower elevation, two houses and a road are seen.

This was the view from the cabin we called home for a week in October 2020. Watching the mist drift across the mountaintops in the distance with a hot mug of coffee each morning was like a sacred ritual.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Hurricane Helene wrought absolute devastation upon this region late last month. The full extent of the destruction and loss will not be known for some time yet. My heart breaks for the people and communities of the region. My friends who work in disaster response have told me that the most useful way to help right now is to give money and blood. I can’t give blood (tried once…my veins are literally too small, it didn’t work and the Red Cross folks respectfully suggested I not come back) and I’m giving what I can - here’s where this benefit comes in!

I’ve got a handful of patchwork-enhanced thrifted denim jackets in my shop, and since fall in the mountains makes me think of crisp, denim jacket weather, I’ve decided to donate 50% of all jacket sales to Helene recovery efforts.

More info:

I’ve selected Beloved Asheville, World Central Kitchen, and Manna Food Bank as recipients of donations from this project. Upon purchase, let me know which you’d prefer your donation to go to (OR if there’s another org you’d like to support with this purchase, I can do that too!). Once the transaction is complete, I will send you a screenshot of the donation for full transparency.

Locals: if you want to meet ITB for delivery, use code FLYFREE to eliminate shipping charges.

The jackets are listed at $95, so 50% is $47.50. I’ll round up to $50 per jacket.

The jackets are all thrifted and in like-new to really good condition. Each patchwork panel is an original creation by me and is securely attached. There’s a small range of sizes (I’m limited to what I can find!) between what I’d call a snug medium and a roomy L-XL. Each listing has lots of measurements and photos!
