Quilt Block Mania March 2024
Coffee Bean Block by Sewistry!
When the opportunity arose to join this year's #QuiltBlockMania block hop, I knew right away I wanted to be part of it! Each month, participating designers create a pattern for a 12" quilt block inspired by a particular theme selected by Carolina Moore. I'll be joining the block hop several times this year; I think it will be a fun creative challenge AND a way to give my newsletter subscribers a little something special ;-)
Read on to learn about my March offering, the #CoffeeBeanQuiltBlock, and to check out all the other blocks inspired by this month’s theme: Drinks!
For me, the choice was obvious when I read this prompt - COFFEE. True story: my husband and I met while working at a local coffee shop ☕️💜☕️
Our kids know that they wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Cup A Joe, and we still get our freshly roasted & ground beans from there. Each day chez Marks starts with the magic bean juice, brewed in the Chemex (another block idea I’ve filed away…), always black*, piping hot in the cold months and over ice in the warmer ones.
So as an ode to this glorious bean, I give you: the Coffee Bean Quilt Block!
This block is traditionally pieced and comes together super quickly - I made mine from start to quilted finish in a day. It’s scrap-friendly and could make a cute trivet, mug/chemex/french press rug, wall hanging for your coffee nook, or even a pillow cover or tote bag panel. Of course, there are also some other coffee-themed blocks by my fellow block hoppers below…maybe an entire coffee quilt is in your future? I can’t wait to see what you create!

*When asked how I like my coffee, my response is either “black as my soul,” or “same as I like my men: dark and bitter.” If you’ve ever met my husband, you know this is obviously a joke 🤣
