Slow Stitching July 2024
I was thrilled to be able to get back to Maine this summer and attend “camp,” a.k.a. A Gathering of Stitches’ Slow Stitching retreat (learn more about these retreats here). This was my third time taking part and it was every bit the cup-filling refuge I’ve experienced in past years. For a week,
my physical needs are completely taken care of: three times a day, a bell is rung and I’m fed delicious, nourishing meals - complete with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options
I learn new techniques from inspiring teachers in the realm of quilting, hand stitching, and dyeing - this year, I learned from Maria Shell, Bianca Springer, and Kim Eichler-Messmer
I reconnect with old friends and make new ones
I am free to create, to swim in the lake, to nap, read, and socialize, without any “shoulds” weighing me down
It is exactly as amazing as it sounds, and I recommend getting on Sam’s mailing list so you can stay in the loop for future retreats!
I didn’t take a ton of photos, because during these special retreat weeks I really try to just exist in the present moment, but here are just a few (and there are some on Instagram as well)
I’m happy to answer any questions about my experiences at these retreats - you can email me or drop a comment below - and would love to hear about any retreats you have enjoyed as well, be they crafty or not!
